Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about KidChef.
1Getting Started
KidChef is designed for children ages 4-14, with three reading levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced) that adapt instructions to your child's abilities. Parents always supervise, especially with younger children.
KidChef prioritizes safety at every step. We include automatic alerts for hot surfaces, sharp objects, and allergens. Parents set permissions for each child, and all recipes include clear safety guidance. The app supplements parental supervision—it doesn't replace it.
After signing up as a parent, go to the Kids section and tap "Add Kid". Enter their name, age, reading level, and any allergies. You can also set permissions for kitchen equipment like stoves and knives.
The Free plan supports 1 kid profile. The Family Plan supports up to 6 kid profiles, each with their own progress, favorites, and cooking history.
2AI & Features
Our AI helps in two ways: it converts any recipe into kid-friendly, age-appropriate instructions, and it provides on-demand explanations when kids tap any step. The AI uses simple language and adds safety context automatically.
Yes! Just find a recipe in Safari, tap the share button, and select KidChef. The recipe imports automatically and our AI converts it into kid-friendly, step-by-step instructions tailored to your child's age and skill level.
As kids complete recipes, they earn badges and build cooking streaks. The app tracks which techniques they've mastered (like stirring, measuring, or knife skills) and suggests recipes to help them level up.
Parents can require approval before kids access new recipes. This gives you full control over what your children cook, letting you review difficulty, ingredients, and safety requirements first.
3Safety & Privacy
When you set up a kid profile, you can list their allergies. KidChef will automatically flag recipes containing those allergens and show prominent warnings during cooking.
Absolutely. We comply with COPPA regulations for children's privacy. We never show ads to children, never sell data, and collect only what's needed to provide the service. All data is encrypted and stored securely.
For each kid profile, you set what equipment they're allowed to use: stove, oven, knives, etc. Recipes will clearly indicate when adult help is needed based on these settings.
KidChef is available on iOS (iPhone and iPad) and Android devices. We're working on a web version for larger screens in the kitchen.
4Pricing & Billing
